Pick and pack services for B2B and B2C orders
Pick and pack services, run from our own floor on the west side of Indianapolis since 2006. Your inventory sits with us and orders arrive however you send them. Our team pulls the right items, packs them to survive the trip, and ships with tracking so nobody has to guess.
What pick and pack actually means
Pick and pack is the step between a customer clicking buy and a box arriving at their door. Someone has to walk the floor and pull the exact items on that order. Then choose a carton that fits, pack it so it survives a freight network, label it, and hand it to a carrier.
Done badly it is invisible until it is not: wrong item, crushed corner, three separate boxes for one order. Done well it is the least dramatic part of your business. That is the goal here.
We run pick and pack for single-item consumer orders and for multi-line business orders going to distributors, stores, and institutions. Same floor, same team, different packing standards for each.
How an order moves through our floor
Four steps, and you can see where an order sits at any of them.
1. The order arrives
Through our online order system, an Excel upload, an email, a shopping cart feed, or our call center by phone or fax. Orders are validated and released to the floor without you touching them.
2. We pick it
Your inventory is stored where the team can reach it and pull the exact items and quantities on the order. Multi-line and mixed-case orders are normal work, not an exception.
3. We pack it
Right-sized carton, appropriate protection for what is inside, and any inserts, literature, or kit components that belong in the box. Fragile and awkward product gets packed by someone who has handled it before.
4. It ships and you can prove it
Labeled, manifested, and handed to the carrier, with tracking and delivery confirmation so you and your customer both know where it went.
Picking that matches how your orders actually arrive
Order profiles differ enormously, and pricing follows the work rather than a published rate card.
Single-item consumer orders
One title, one product, one box, going straight to an end customer. High order count, low lines per order. This is the B2C pattern, and it rewards a tight pack station.
Multi-line business orders
A distributor or store ordering a mix of items in case or inner-pack quantities. Fewer orders, far more picking per order, and packing standards set by the receiver.
Kitted and assembled orders
Orders where components have to become one finished unit before anything ships. Building the kit and picking the order happen on the same floor, which is why they do not have to be two vendors.
Most clients are a blend, and the blend changes seasonally. Tell us your real order profile on the quote form and we will price the work rather than an average.
The pick line, the storage, and the phone are all in one building
The inventory being picked is in our warehouse, a few hundred feet from the pack station. If an order needs kitting or co-packing first, that happens here too. If a customer calls to ask where their order is, our client-branded call center can answer as you.
That matters most when something goes wrong. A short shipment, a damaged inbound, a rush order at 4pm. Those get solved by people who can walk to the rack and look, not by a ticket queue in another state.
Geography helps with the rest. A ground shipment leaving here reaches roughly 75% of the US population the next day. Carrier cutoffs run late too, because Indianapolis hosts the second-largest FedEx Express hub in the world.
From one author's book launch to ongoing distributor programs
Book publishers, medical supply distributors, university departments, and printing companies all send us orders. Sizes run from an author with one title up to companies shipping continuously, all year.
If you are shipping business-to-business into retail or distribution, the B2B fulfillment page covers how that work differs. If you want the whole picture, start at fulfillment services or see the industries we serve.
Tell us what goes in the box
Send your monthly order count, your average lines per order, and what you ship. We will come back with a plan and a quote.
Common questions about pick and pack services
What is pick and pack?
Pick and pack is the part of order fulfillment where a team pulls the specific items on an order from inventory. They pack them into a shipping carton and hand them to a carrier. Instead of shipping a full pallet of one product, we ship the exact mix each customer ordered. It is the core of B2C fulfillment, where a single box goes to one buyer. It is equally the core of B2B fulfillment, where a case or pallet mix goes to a store or distributor.
How is pick and pack priced?
Pick and pack pricing is quote-driven, and it usually reflects three things: the number of orders, the number of lines and units in each order, and the packaging that goes around them. An order with one item costs less to pick than one with fifteen. Storage for the inventory sitting between orders is quoted separately. We look at your real order profile before quoting, because averages hide the work.
Do you have a minimum order volume?
No. Our fulfillment clients have ranged from individual authors shipping their own titles to multimillion-dollar companies running ongoing programs. Small and irregular volume is normal here, and projects that are too small or too hands-on for a large 3PL are often a good fit for us.
How do orders reach you?
Whichever way already works for you: our online order processing system, an Excel file upload, a plain email, a feed from your shopping cart, or our call center taking orders by phone and fax. We do not require you to move platforms to become a client.
Can you handle kitting or assembly as part of picking?
Yes, and it is one of the reasons clients come to us. If an order needs components combined into a finished kit, product placed in a display, or a bundle built before it ships, that work happens on the same floor as the picking. See our kitting and co-packing work on the fulfillment page.
